Technology workspace

I am Don A. Sands III, an IT professional with a background in support operations, systems administration, network engineering, regulated laboratory systems, and practical problem solving across Windows, Linux, cloud, and on-prem infrastructure.

This site serves two purposes: a professional resume for my technical career and the home page for DASIII LLC, my startup focused on dependable computer support, network services, and small business technology consulting.

I work best where the problem is real, the environment matters, and the solution has to be maintainable after the initial fix. That means clear troubleshooting, good documentation, secure defaults, and systems that people can actually operate.

Projects

Home lab and technical projects

My personal lab is where I test, break, rebuild, and document the systems that shape my professional judgment. It includes virtualization, network segmentation, server administration, backups, DNS filtering, firewall policy, Linux services, and self-hosted tools.

Current Technical Focus

  • Proxmox virtualization, Windows Server, Linux services, and backup architecture
  • UniFi networking, firewall replacement, VPN access, DNS filtering, and VLAN design
  • Self-hosted infrastructure intended to reduce dependency on closed ecosystems
  • Documentation, repeatable builds, and operational processes that survive beyond the first install

How I Approach Technical Work

I do not consider a fix complete just because the alert disappears. A complete fix should explain what failed, why it failed, how to confirm recovery, how to prevent recurrence when practical, and what tradeoffs were accepted.
